My inspiration for this painting canes from the following poetic lines from Gerry Lagister’s poem:

An Escape

This boat that is my land amid the water, is as bright as the last berry of summer. I feel the wind, gusting with the tempo of a fiddle, dancing with long and short bows, punctuated by soulful silence. I watch the billowed sail, rippling the same as the water around, always ready to propel us onward. Under this rising sun I have watched the mast shadow grow and fade, yet it is a pale form of darkness and nothing at all to compare to the brilliance of stars in the night. “There may be shadows in the sunlight, my love, but there will always be stars at night.”

Down, down down
The milky white clouds floating in the howling wind match the chalky white color of the snow, scattered all over the colossal mountain. The forceful wind is blowing a gale like a hurricane providing us with an intrepid journey ahead.
The jagged rocks are like sharp knives piercing my feet through my thick leather boots. I am staggering up the vast mountain through the overruling wind that is gently brushing past my face.
I am in love with this slow drifting snow… going down, down…..down”

The winter palette’s colors are vivid though subdued. Sedona's main attraction is its array of red sandstone formations. The formations appear to glow in brilliant orange and red when illuminated by the rising or setting sun. The red rocks form a popular backdrop for many activities, ranging from spiritual pursuits to the hundreds of hiking and mountain biking trails.
Nestled in the heart of Arizona is the small desert town of Sedona. It is well known for its beautiful landscape, iconic red cliffs, and desert juniper forests. The tall and carved cliff sides create stunning views and epic outdoor adventures. We can thank weather and the earth’s natural cycles for all of it. Artistically speaking, Sedona is a gold mine.
I am in love with this place and crave to go to this place, again and again. This painting always reminds me of the abundance of natural beauty.

In the Marsh
A thin wet sky, that yellows at the rim, And meets with sun-lost lip the marsh’s brim. The pools low lying, dank with moss and mould, Glint through their mildews like large cups of gold.Emily Johnson beautifully captures the spirit in her poem, “Marshlands”, the essential message of this gorgeous painting in oil pastels. Everyone has a place where they go to escape all the pressures and worries of life. There is always that one spot that can mellow all your problems and soothe troubles in times of stress. For me‚ the beach is the ultimate cure to all of my problems. While I am there‚ all of my obligations suddenly vanish. As I stroll along‚ I can feel the soft smooth sand beneath my feet. As I take in the soothing atmosphere that encircles me‚ I close my eyes‚ letting myself absorb the warming rays of the sun.
